Short, useful notes from Bob: what is ripe, how the stand works, why we grow organic, and how to use what you bring home.

How Our Farm Stand Works Field note

How Our Farm Stand Works

We run a small organic farm stand out of our urban farm in North Nashville. A couple days a week we set up out front with whatever's ripe - heirloom tomatoes, sweet peppers, and more as the season rolls. You pay with Venmo or cash, first come first served, and the exact address goes out by text.

What's Ripe This Week at Our Nashville Farm Stand Field note

What's Ripe This Week at Our Nashville Farm Stand

This week at our North Nashville urban farm stand: green tomatoes for fryin', plus ripe Black Krim, Big Beef, and Cherry tomatoes while they last. Roma, sweet peppers, baskets, seconds, roasted sunflower seeds, and starts are coming later. Address goes out by text - join the list or text TOMATO to 615-212-9394.

Meet the Tomatoes: Black Krim, Big Beef, Cherry & Roma Field note

Meet the Tomatoes: Black Krim, Big Beef, Cherry & Roma

We grow four tomatoes on our North Nashville urban farm, and each one has a job. Black Krim is the smoky slicer, Big Beef is the classic sandwich tomato, Cherry is the snack that never makes it inside, and Roma is your sauce and paste tomato. Here's how to pick the right one.

How Our Season Share (CSA) Works Field note

How Our Season Share (CSA) Works

A season share is a simple deal: you prepay once, and through the season you get first pick of whatever we're harvesting from our North Nashville urban farm - tomatoes, peppers, and more as it comes in. It supports the farm up front, and it gets you the best of the harvest before the stand even opens.

Why We Grow Organic in the Middle of the City Field note

Why We Grow Organic in the Middle of the City

We grow organic - no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers - on our small urban farm in North Nashville because we actually eat this food, and because how you grow something is most of what it tastes like. It's more work and smaller yields, but a tomato picked ripe from clean soil is a different thing than one bred to survive a truck.

Classic Fried Green Tomatoes Recipe

Classic Fried Green Tomatoes

Fried green tomatoes are firm, unripe tomatoes sliced thick, dredged in cornmeal, and pan-fried until golden and crisp. You need green (unripe) tomatoes - ripe ones are too soft. We sell green tomatoes at our North Nashville stand as a special ($2.50/lb), so you can grab a bag and have these on the table in 20 minutes.
